Important note – please read first
All Class 2-9 buildings require planning approval prior to submitting a Building Permit application.
Certified building permit applications must be submitted complete with all prior approvals issued (including planning approval).
Find out how to apply for planning approval.
Step 1: Apply for a building permit
Applications for a commercial Building Permit are required to be lodged as a Certified (BA1) application. A Certified application has been assessed by a private Building Surveyor and has been issued with a Certificate of Design Compliance.
When submitting your application for a Building Permit Certified, you will need to include the following:
- Completed BA3 – Certificate of Design Compliance that is signed by a registered building surveyor, including all referenced documents within the Certificate of Design Compliance
- Planning Approval number (if planning approval is required)
- Proof of Environmental Health approval if you are installing a sewage effluent system (if required)
- Stormwater Drainage Plan – Drainage design must be certified by a practising Civil Engineer or Hydraulic Consultant.
Refer to Building Permit Fee and Calculator.
Step 2: Assessment
Building permit applications either certified or uncertified are usually assessed and approved within 10 business days.
Building permits are sent to the builder via post.
Step 3: Submit a Notice of Completion
Under the Building Act 2011, the builder must notify the Shire that the work is completed by submitting a BA7 Notice of Completion Form
