A contaminated site is a piece of land that has become polluted with materials or agents which may present a risk to human health.
Contamination usually occurs as a result of previous human activities, for example through industry, and is generally managed through remediation.
The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation is responsible for the monitoring and enforcing of contaminated sites under the Contaminated Sites Act 2003.
