The Land for Wildlife (LFW) program empowers landholders to protect and restore natural areas and watercourses on their properties. Private land plays a crucial role in preserving wildlife habitat by:

  • Providing essential food, water, shelter, and safe spaces for nesting and breeding
  • Creating vital links between conservation areas, allowing animals to move with the seasons and find mates
  • Supporting healthy water systems by slowing stormwater runoff and reducing sediment, erosion, and salinity
  • Enhancing the beauty of the landscape and ensuring its protection for future generations

Who can join?

If you own a property larger than 1 hectare (2.5 acres) with at least 10% native vegetation or a watercourse, we’d love for you to get involved! We’re especially interested in hearing from landholders in wildlife corridors. If your property is smaller, you can still contribute to backyard biodiversity in meaningful ways.

Benefits of joining Land for Wildlife

When you join, you’ll gain access to:

  • Expert advice on land management, revegetation, and protecting native wildlife
  • Free workshops and events led by environmental and wildlife specialists
  • A copy of Wildlife of the Perth Hills booklet
  • A Land for Wildlife information kit packed with guides on caring for native plants and animals
  • Invitations to participate in citizen science projects and grant-funded conservation initiatives

Wildlife Camera Loan Program

Curious about the wildlife on your property? Borrow a wildlife camera to observe and document the native animals around you. The data collected contributes to conservation efforts and helps secure funding for new projects in the Shire.
