Astrophotography: A Practical Workshop

Monday 15th July 2024

(For adults)

Bring along your camera and tripod and have a go at shooting astrophotography. The evening will begin with a short indoor presentation. We will then move outdoors, setting up your camera and taking appropriate exposures so the next time you are under dark skies you can capture awesome astrophotography of the night sky.

We will shoot the night sky and/or moon depending on subjects available on the night.

You will need your own equipment. A list of suggested equipment is as follows:

  • Camera - ideally DSLR or similarly capable Mirrorless camera
  • Lenses - wide angle, ideally fast, e.g.: 14mm, 17mm or 24mm and f/1.4, f/2.8, or f/4
  • Tripod - ideally one you are familiar with, and which is reasonably sturdy
  • Cable/bulb release for your camera, or equivalent wireless/Bluetooth control of your camera so you can take a photo without touching the camera
  • Instead of cable/bulb release you may be able to use wireless control of your camera via a smartphone or tablet- this would need to be set up ahead of time
  • Lens shade to help prevent dew
  • Sufficient batteries and memory cards, e.g., 16GB memory card.
  • Compass, or smart phone with compass functionality.

Places are limited and bookings are essential. Places are $22 each. Two facilitators will present and guide this workshop.

Please advise if you have any access restrictions.

Light refreshments will be available. We encourage you to bring your own keep-cup for tea/coffee/water.

Cancellations: Refunds will not be issued for non-attendance or for cancellations less than 2 working days before the scheduled start time.
