Hiking in Japan with Amanda Kendle

Monday 4th November 2024

(For adults)

Japan is one of the most popular destinations for Australians these days, but most go to explore the culture and history of cities like Tokyo and Kyoto, or to head north to go skiing. If you want to add something different to your Japan experience, you can explore the options of hiking and walks in Japan. As a popular Japanese pastime, the country is full of well-maintained hiking routes joining small towns and villages, with incredible scenery and opportunities to experience a wide range of local foods and cultural specialities.

Amanda Kendle, who has lived in Japan and returns frequently, will speak about her experience walking on the Basho Trail in northern Japan, including highlights like bathing in hot springs, tasting regional specialties, exploring museums and temples, and meeting wonderful local people.

Amanda will also give an overview of how to arrange a hike in Japan and give a sample of the many and varied hiking options available.

The great news is that you don't have to be an experienced hiker to thoroughly enjoy a walk in Japan!

Bookings are essential for this free event via Eventbrite. Light refreshments will be available. You are encouraged to bring your own keep cup for tea/coffee or water.

Please let us know if you have any access requirements.
