Poetry and Conversation: Morgan Yasbincek and Marcella Polain with Elizabeth Lewis

Join us for a night of poetry reading and conversation at Boya Library with award-winning writers Morgan Yasbincek and Marcella Polain. Elizabeth Lewis will be talking to Morgan and Marcella about their latest works and touch on wider topics around poetry and writing. 

Books will be available for purchase and signing after the event.

About Marcella Polain: Marcella Polain was born in Singapore, migrated to Australia with her Armenian mother and Irish father, and lives on Wadjuk Noongar land. Her first collection, Dumbstruck, won the Anne Elder Award. Therapy like Fish: new and selected poems, was short-listed for the Judith Wright Poetry Prize. The seven-eight count of unstoppable sadness (Puncher and Wattmann, 2023) is her most recent collection. Her first novel, The Edge of the World, was short-listed for a Commonwealth Writers’ Prize. Her second, Driving into the Sun, was written with the assistance of an Australia Council grant.

Marcella also publishes braided essays, is a co-founder of fold editions (with visual artist Paul Uhlmann), and has been awarded the Gold Medal by the Writers Association of Armenia. Her writing has been published internationally and in translation. She works as a Senior Lecturer in Creative and Professional Writing at Edith Cowan University.

About Morgan Yasbincek: Morgan Yasbincek has published four collections of poetry and one novel, the most recent of which is the poetry collection, Coming to Nothing, in late 2023.

Her first collection, Night Reversing won the Anne Elder and Mary Gilmore awards. Firelick was short-listed for the Victorian Premier's C.J. Dennis award and White Camel was shortlisted for the New South Wales Premier's Kenneth Slessor Award. Her novel liv was short-listed for the ASAL gold medal award and was highly commended in the Victorian Premier's awards. Morgan has taught creative writing at Murdoch University, ECU, UEA in England and at various community workshops in Australia and overseas. She has also mentored several emerging WA writers' manuscripts.

Morgan lives in the Perth hills, works in the field of library services and continues to develop her writing practice.
