At just nine years of age, Mundaring’s Judd Howard has capped off a stellar year by placing 16th in the world BMX championships in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

A previous recipient of a Youth Grant from Shire of Mundaring, Judd is ranked number one in Australia for his age group after competing in the biggest class in the competition against 107 other riders.

The remarkable effort followed his success at a national level in Australia, where he competed in Shepparton, Victoria; Maccarthur BMX track in Sydney and WA’s Westside BMX track.

At the nationals qualifying event, Judd qualified first overall for this year’s national series for 9-year-old boys against 68 other riders. He proudly won every race for Round 5.

His older brother Ace Howard qualified 18th out of 77 riders for the 11-year-old boys.

In a show of support, their school mates at Mundaring Christian College jumped online to watch the BMX National Championships. Ace made it to the quarter finals, finishing 31 out of 51 riders. Judd won every race, recording the fastest gate and lap time, and was crowned the 9-boys national champion for 2024.

Their proud mum Shenae said lots of hard work and training had gone into getting the boys ready for this big event, not only physically but mentally as well.

“Both boys are passionate about riding and spend most of their time on our land, building jumps and riding with their friends.  Judd would love to go professional one day and has the drive and ability to do so” she said.

Ace and Judd worked with fitness coach and motivator Kate Kendrick for a year through the ROAR and Fast-Fit programs. Shire of Mundaring is also a proud supporter of Kate’s programs having recently awarded ROAR a $23,000 grant. This grant will fund inclusive programs that promote fitness and a positive mindset for young people in the shire.
