Shire of Mundaring residents will soon receive their new bins in preparation for the launch of Food Organics Garden Organics system (FOGO) rollout starting on Monday 1 July 2024.

On Thursday 7 June, 15,000 FOGO bins arrived at the Easter Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC) facility in Hazelmere ready for distribution to households across the shire. In addition to the new bins, residents will receive an information pack, a kitchen caddy and a year's supply of compostable bin liners.

The FOGO system not only supports our environmental goals but also promotes sustainable living for our community by making it easier for residents to participate in waste reduction and recycling efforts.

The timeline for the rollout of the new bins is as follows:

Monday 10 June to Sunday 30 June – one new 240L lime green lidded FOGO bin, and information pack, one kitchen caddy and two rolls of compostable bin liners will be delivered to households across the shire.

Monday 1 July onwards – households are requested to put their new FOGO bins out for collection for the first time on their usual bin days.

August to September 2024 – old waste bin lids will be swapped over on household waste bins (from dark green to red).

About FOGO

The Western Australian State Government have set targets for 75% of waste to be diverted from landfill by 2030. The new 3-Bin kerbside system incorporating the FOGO bin will assist the Councils and their communities in achieving these targets. The State Government requires all local governments in Perth and Peel to move to FOGO by 2025.
