Shire of Mundaring’s advocacy efforts have secured significant funding commitments for essential upgrades to the changerooms at Burkinshaw Oval in Glen Forrest.

Following an approach from the Glen Forrest Cricket and Tennis Clubs seeking improvements to outdated facilities, Council included the project in its Advocacy Campaign. As a result, candidates for the State seat of Kalamunda have pledged their support, with Liberal candidate Adam Hort committing $900,000 and Nationals candidate Lisa Logan committing $1.25 million towards the project.

Shire President Paige McNeil welcomed these commitments, highlighting the importance of collaboration between local and state governments in delivering essential community infrastructure.

“As part of our advocacy efforts, we called on all candidates to help fund this priority project, which will provide universally accessible clubrooms for our sporting community,” she said.

“It’s exciting to see election promises that align with our vision. When local and state governments work together on priority projects, we achieve the best outcomes for our community.”

The project will deliver modern, inclusive clubrooms and changerooms to support Glen Forrest’s growing sporting community, including the Glen Forrest Women’s Cricket Team, which has reached the grand final for three years running. The upgraded facilities will enable the team to host matches and attract more participants to the sport. The upgrades will also benefit local junior and senior cricket tennis and soccer players, with more than 130 participants regularly using the facilities.

The Shire has committed $1.25 million towards the project and is seeking a matching contribution of $1.25 million in external funding. Concept designs are scheduled for 2024/25, with construction anticipated to commence in 2026/27.

The Shire remains committed to advocating for investment in community sport and recreation facilities to ensure inclusive and accessible spaces for all residents. View the Shire’s latest Recreation Facilities Informing Strategy November 2024 for further information.
