Shire of Mundaring to Commence Local Law Reviews

Shire of Mundaring will be reviewing several local laws, with a particular focus on signage regulations and cat management, in response to key areas of community concern. At its February Ordinary Meeting, Council referred the proposed amendments to these local laws to the Governance Committee for further review. The committee will consider the purpose and scope of potential amendments before making recommendations to Council.

The review process follows Council’s previous resolutions in November 2024 and January 2025, which identified the need to align the local law with relevant policies and legislative requirements.

Shire President Paige McNeil welcomed the decision, highlighting Council’s responsiveness to community feedback.

“Council has listened to our community and is taking action to strengthen our local laws,” she said.

“We encourage our community members to participate in the review process.”

President McNeil also emphasised the importance of ensuring the laws remain effective and relevant.

“By reviewing these local laws, we aim to deliver relevant, fit for purpose and practical regulations that reflect the needs of our community. Whether it’s improving signage rules or addressing concerns about responsible cat ownership, our goal is to deliver fair and enforceable outcomes,” she said.

The process will be conducted in accordance with Section 3.12 of the Local Government Act 1995, which prescribes the necessary steps for making or amending a local law, including public consultation.
